Ficus sycomorus as a Sustainable Source of Leather Dyeing Material: An Ecofriendly Approach

Natural colorants play a vital role in the production of eco-leather by substituting environmentally hazardous and toxic synthetic dyestuffs. In this study, natural dye is extracted optimized from bark Ficus sycomorus, plant species locally known as shola, designing different combinations concentration, temperature, time parameters. A 120 g/l concentration at temperature 1000°C for 60 minutes showed highest absorbance value, it has been used further dyeing processes with without mordant. Properties such color strength (k/s), L ∗ id="M2"> b id="M3"> values, fastness dyed leather specimen were measured analyzed. Oxalic acid mordant-dyed samples mordanted postmordanting method have revealed k/s value among other experimental samples. Moreover, better properties obtained sample oxalic acid. Consequently, sycomorus can be material.
